Bag of Rice Project #205 -A visit to the Aniefiok family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Aniefiok family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to HELEN ROOT this is the 205th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village in the southern part of Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief whom we had to meet before we entered the village. He recommended the Benson family to us and they were very interesting to meet. Mrs Aniefiok is a widow, she and her 4 kids live in a two bedroom mud house that has no electricity or plumbing. This village also has a problem with water and to get water they have to fetch from their local stream or collect rain water.

The Aniefioks cook in a semi open kitchen structure. They use firewood because it is the cheapest they can afford. Mrs Aniefiok turned to farming after her husband died. She grows cassava and sells at the local market. This barely covers for her families feeding so Mrs Aniefiok also makes hair for the villagers.

We were happy to meet this family. They had a fun attitude and had also been expecting us because we have been in this village before. They were happy and grateful to receive their bag of Rice and thanked those who donated to their family. I felt happy going home because we left them happier than we met them.
