. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Etukudo family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Kristina Cassar this is the 207th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village outside Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief. The Etukudos live in a one bedroom mud house. Their house has no electricity or plumbing and they fetch water from the stream when they need it. The Etukudos have 4 kids and most of them were not at home when we visited. We met Mr Etukudo and his son Henry. Henry has been very helpful to us during our deliveries in this village and has been our guide through most of our visits.

The Etukudos cook with firewood in a room in their house. You can see that everywhere is darkened with soot but they are not rich enough to afford any other means of cooking. We did not meet Mrs Etukudo at home as she had gone to market to sell fruits and vegetables. Mr Etukudo is a bit advanced in age and can no longer do strenuous farm work but all his children now farm and they sell what they can and eat the rest.

It was a pleasure visiting this family. Henry showed me their house while we were visiting another family and I made a mental note to visit his family as well. They were very happy to receive us and they were very grateful for the bag of Rice and thanked those who donated to their family. I’m glad we surprised Henry, he has helped us visit and put smiles in so many other families and it was nice to see a genuine smile on his.
