Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Usung family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Lisa Mecham Family this is the 210th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this wonderful family in a village outside Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief and he also gave us someone to guide us in locating this family. Mr Usung is a widower and he lives in a one room mud and brick house with his 5 kids. The house do not have plumbing or electricity and for water they fetch from a local stream or collect rain water.

The Usungs cook in a room besides their house. They use firewood in cooking because it is the cheapest form of fuel they can afford to use. Mr Usung is a bricklayer, which explains why part of his house is made of cement because he built it himself. But due to the economic downturn, work has been hard to come by so he has turned to farming. He heard me might make a visit and was waiting for us to visit so he did not go to the farm today but most of his children were at the farm.

We met Mr Usung and one of his daughter at home. She is not yet married and has a lovely kid named John. They were so happy to meet us as Mr Usung was pre informed of our visit because his farm is so far away from the main village. They were very happy for the gift given to the family and were very grateful to those who donated to them. This Bag of Rice will solve a major problem for this family and give them a huge reason to smile during this Christmas period.
