Bag of Rice Project #23 -A visit to the James Nwaeke family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the James Nwaeke family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Donna Williams this is the 23rd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

The James Nwaeke family are a wonderful family with 4 kids. They live in an uncompleted two bedroom apartment in the outskirts of Aba. The father of the house Mr James is currently unemployed at the moment and the wife Mrs Ugochi is a hairdresser and her work currently supports the family.

They welcomed us with open arms. Unbeknownst to us Mrs Ugochi saw us heading to their house and closed her shop to come see us. That was touching. She told us how they have needed a bag of rice and how they have saving up to buy it and she suggested to her husband that they wait a few more days since buying a small bag of rice would take all their savings. They waited into the new year before they bought it. So our visit with a bag of rice was met with such happiness and appreciation and even their neighbors came to thank us. We left the James family feeling happy that we have helped them to better their life in a major way and they will reinvest their savings in another aspect.
