. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Tom family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Beth Phillips, Pam Pruett and Tami Smith this is the 231st bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this next family in a village on the outskirts of Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief. Mrs Tom is a widow and has 4 kids. She lives in a small one bedroom mudhouse that has no plumbing or electricity. To get water, they have to walk a long distance to a local stream and fetch water.

Mrs Tom cooks in one of the rooms in her house. She uses sticks and a metal tripod to support her pot. Most villagers use this method as it is easy to access and obtain as using gas or even kerosene to cook is seen as a sign of affluence. Mrs Tom is a farmer and she grows cassava in her farm, eats what she grows and sells the surplus. This what she does all year round but the lockdown really affected them as they could no longer sell most of their crops to other markets.

It was a pleasure to meet Mrs Tom and two of her sons. We tried to explain to her why we visited her and what we brought for her but she did not believe us. It only dawned on her sometime while we were taking the pictures and she asked us if the whole Rice was for her, made us all laugh because we have been trying to tell her that for at least 10 minutes. She has a very nice spirit and kept thanking and praying to God to bless those who made her to receive this bag of Rice and I could see exactly what it meant for her. Visits like this warm our hearts and gives us the strength to continue on.
