. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Oko family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Garth and Jennie Woodruff Family this is the 253th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Oko family in Ibii, a village located on the outskirts of Afikpo in eastern Nigeria. We met Ms. Ngozi Uche Oko and her kids at home. Her husband was a fisherman before he left to another town in search of a better job while she runs domestic errands for more affluent households. She fetches water, wash dishes and cloths and gets paid after one month. She earns about $33 after 30 days of work, so just over a dollar a day for a full days labor.

Due to the nature of her work, she comes home late often to meet her children hungry. She currently resides in her father’s mud house where she lives with her children. She cooks with firewood which is synonymous with people of low class income. It is easy for her to get firewood because her younger sister does that part of the work for her.

She was excited when we presented a bag of rice to her, she said she never expected this, especially as it is not coming from politicians, instead a stranger. She said words of prayers for the donors asking God to bless them exceedingly for their kindness.
