Bag of Rice Project #26 -A visit to the Anyanwu Family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Anyanwu Family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Bonnie Whitfill ,Katie Panike, Tami Romrell this is the 26th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met Mr Anyanwu through his church leader who recommended him to us. Mr Anyanwu is a widower whose wife died last year November after a long fight with cancer. She left behind 3 kids all of whom are below 9 years old. Due to the fact that Mr Anyanwu is currently unemployed two of kids are with his sister in law . They live in an uncompleted building and share it with two other families.

The Anyanwu house

We met only one of Mr Anyanwu’s kids and when we spoke to him and commiserated on the loss of his wife, Mr Anyanwu told us of some of the difficulties he has been facing in taking care of his family and managing his family after the death of his wife. We were touched by this story and happy that we made the decision to choose this family to help. They deserved something to put a smile on their faces and were very grateful for the bag of rice and we left their home feeling happy that we achieved our purpose to help the family.
