. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Udion family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Karen Hibshman this is the 271st bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Udion family in Uruk Unam in Akwa Ibom state, we were accompanied by their village chief through his messenger, who brought us to the Udion family, Mr Friday Udion is in his late 50s, he drove commercial buses in the past as his source of livelihood but is currently out of job now. Seeking one but jobs are very hard to find. On the other hand Mrs Ediong Udion is a farmer and helps the family with the little she can harvest from her small scale farming, Her husband and children al help with the farm as well. The Udion family are blessed with 8 children and they live in a one bedroom mudhouse with no electricity or plumbing.

They cook using a popular tripod stand, this time it was from bricks, and they make use of firewood to cook their meals. They have little to feed and some days they ate one meal a day. The Udions family’s kitchen is a small hut outside their mud house. During rainy season, it can be disrupted by heavy winds and heavy drops of rain on their roof, generally it was not a good sight for cooking.

We were very happy to meet this wonderful family. They were very grateful with their bag of Rice and thanked those who donated it to their family. Farmers have been hit very hard this year and our visit was very welcomed by the Udion family. We left with smiles on our faces because we left them in better state than when we met them.
