. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Gideon family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Karen Hibshman, Patti Mayberry and Linda Honsvick this is the 273rd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Gideon family at Uruk Unam in Akwa Ibom. They live in a two bedroom old mud house with bad roofs close to a thick bush which had no electricity and plumbing. The Village entirely had no electricity, sometimes they go miles away from their homes to charge their cell phone batteries. Mr Gideon Akpan is in his early 40’s and also a woodworker while Mrs Happiness Akpan is in her early 30’s and she is a petty trader, they are blessed with 3 children.

The Gideons could not afford to build a kitchen so they cook close to their door post, in front of their home. It was a metal tripod stand supported by the help of firewood and dry cassava stems to form a furnace. Their source of livelihood couldn’t fetch them a comfortable way of living and feeding.

They welcomed us with open arms and entertained us with water and seats to make us feel at home. Mr Gideon Akpan wasn’t at home at the time of our arrival. On presenting the the bag of rice to Mrs. happiness Akpan who was available with the kids was ecstatic and she thanked the sponsors for remembering them in this time of the year.
