. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Sunday family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Laura Hernandez this is the 274th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

Navigating through the walkways of Uruk Unam village in Akwa ibom, Nigeria we met the Sunday family. Mr Friday Sunday is in his late 30’s, he is young and vibrant. He is a palm wine tapper, that is his only source of livelihood. His wife Mrs Ekaete Sunday is in her late 20’s, she is a hair dresser. We met them in a pitiable condition, financially. The Sunday’s have been together for about 9 years and fruitful with 2 children.

The Sunday’s live in a two bedroom mud house, their home is located near palm trees and farmlands I’m sure that’s where Mr Sunday got his talent of tapping palm wine. They couldn’t feed properly because they had little, going without meals often lucky to have one a day. The Sunday’s had no kitchen because they couldn’t afford one so they improvised by cooking in an open space in front of their home, it was the popular metal tripod stand supported by dry woods from the nearby farmlands and bushes around.

After giving them the bag of rice it really changed their mood, though we didn’t see Mr Friday Sunday at the time of our arrival. Mrs Ekaete Sunday thanked us for this great gift, she called us special people and thanked the donors and everyone involved in bringing happiness to her and her family. Wishing us a safe trip back to where we came from.
