. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Friday family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Jake and Amber Given Family this is the 275th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

Through the help of the messenger from the Village Chief at Uruk Unam in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, we were directed us to the Friday family. Mr Aniekan Friday and Mrs Patience Friday have been together for quite a long time and blessed with 5 children. They told us that their jobs were tapping palm wine, producing little quantity of palm oil and farming respectively. They do all the work themselves and find it hard to make enough to sell in large quantities.

Their house is an old hut, which isn’t well maintained. It has leaky patches around the rooftop. The Friday’s couldn’t afford a kitchen so they improvised by cooking their meals just close to their home in an open space, there were also farmlands close to their house and the grasses around their house were all grown. The Friday’s cooked with the popular metal shaped tripod stand supported by dry woods to make a fire.

It took us more than 30 minutes of walking, before we found the Friday’s but we were relieved with their nice gesture. They offered us water and seats, they were so happy about the bag of rice and thanked us for remembering them in a time like this. It made it worth the effort as the 110lb bag of rice is not easy to transport and with each step we wondered how much longer it would be. But we knew they were in great need of this rice. They were so grateful to those who donated the bag of rice to them after we explained how it got to them and they rendered heartwarming prayers to them as well.
