Bag of rice Project #28 -A visit to the Isaac Oleka family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Isaac Oleka family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Colby Bair, Tracy Ontiveros, Rachael Foushee, Kate Hearne this is the 28th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

This family lived in the outskirts of Aba and live in an apartment surrounded by many other tenants and share other facilities with those tenants. Mr Oleka is a laborer that assists in building projects while his wife Mrs Peace is a trader that sells small food items. They have 4 kids and both parents do not make enough money to take adequate care of the kids. They cook in the open and bring the stove inside when it rains.

We found all of the family at home, a very happy family that welcomed us well. When we told them of the reason for our visit they were happy and told us of their happiness for us remembering them. They thanked us so much and thanked those who donated to help them. Mrs Peace expressed how much they’ve needed food and told us that they had gone hungry on some nights and this won’t happen again since they now have rice. We were happy that this level of a difference was made and hope more help can keep coming so that we can make a difference in families like this.
