Bag of Rice Project #29 -A visit to the Nkanu Family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Nkanu family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Lori Leflore this is the 29th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

This special family was recommended by their church leader and we met them late in the evening when everybody was at home. They have been facing some financial problems as the breadwinner Mr Nkanu lost his job six months before and has not been able to replace it. They have been evicted from their home and are looking for help and we heard their story and decided to jump in a and help in the little way we can. The Nkanu’s have 5 kids and their smiles belied the struggle they were facing.

The Nkanu’s were very welcoming, they were really needed the bag of rice and both Mr Nkanu and his wife made it known to us how important it will be to them. They know they have a lot of other problems but they were satisfied that God has heard their prayers and has been answering them. We saw how happy they were because they couldn’t stop shaking our hands and we were happy that they appreciated our gift and that it will help them push forward.
