Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Saviour family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Lindsey Watkins this is the 290th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met Saviour Saturday in a small village just outside Uyo, Nigeria. His friends call him SS for short. Mr Sunday used to be married but his wife left him and his young son and moved to the city. He went into farming at a very young age because his late Dad was also a farmer. After the demise of his father, he started working for people in their farms as a hired labourer, he worked for 5 years before taking over his father’s piece of land where he farms coconut and cassava at the other end. He sells these two commodities at market days in other to raise money for the upkeep of his kid.

He uses kerosene stove for cooking but at times, and when he cannot afford to buy a litre, he makes use of firewood or dust. He fetches firewood from his farmland each time he is returning from farm work. Mr Saviour and his son live in a one room mud house with no plumbing or electricity. In the picture above you can see how they gather water from the roof and even though it is not very clean they use it for almost everything.

He was surprised to receive the gift of a bag of rice from us, he offered us drinks and raw food, while expressing gratitude to God for remembering him and his family in this time of difficult, praying that God should bless the donors immensely.
