. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Sam family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Kim OConnor, Karen Hicks, Nikki Dyer and Jessica Kozak this is the 295th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Sam family in Uruk unam, a village just outside Uyo. Mrs Abigail Harry Sam is blind widow and she has 8 children. Most of whom have left for greener pastures. And only one is staying with her. They live in a two bedroom mudhouse which has no electricity or plumbing. She lost her sight about 10 years ago shortly after losing her husband who was the bread winner of the family.

Her condition has made one of her daughters (Comfort) to stay with her in order to cater for some of her needs. Mrs. Abigail Sam used to be a trader before her blindness, which retired her from active business. From our observation, the average income of the family is very low with no help at sight. Mrs Comfort tries to eke out a living through farming in a small piece of farmland they have and the family struggles with feeding adequately due to lack of funds, They cook with the popular tripod metal stand that makes use of firewood. Almost all the families fetch firewood from nearby bushes or their farmlands.

They were filled with joy when we gave them a bag of rice from the donations, according to them, they haven’t received such a gift from total strangers in their entire life. They thanked the donors for remembering them and asked God to bless them exceedingly.
