Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Consider family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Jessica Stott this is the 317th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
Meet Mrs. Consider Sunday, 57 year old widow, she lost her husband to the cold hands of death several years after a protracted illness. Since then, she has nurtured her two daughters into full-grown adults. With old age approaching rapidly, and her farming prowess dropping drastically, the economy of the family has been badly affected. One of her daughters, who also has a child, is now the bread winner of the family, she runs a small restaurant in the market square, the profit she realizes from her business is spent on family needs, as such, it’s barely enough to make out a living.
They live in a two bedroom mud house with metal roof and wooden doors/windows, although the environment looks very clean and condusive, other conditions of their lives are perceived to be poorly attended to. They cook outside, a little cabin that fills in as a kitchen and they use leafs and dry bamboo stem oftentimes for kindling in their tripod metal stand, all these handwork are in a bid to put food on their table.
When we met and gave her a bag of rice. She and her kids were overwhelmed with the joy. She expressed gratitude toward the givers, implored and sang tunes, in enthusiasm for the great work God has brought for family through the donors.
