Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign
. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Promise family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to an Anonymous donor this is the 326th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village outside of Uyo called Oruk Anam. They were referred to us by their village chief who also sent us a guide to help us locate and communicate with the family. The Promise family live in a one bedroom mudhouse with their 3 kids. We only met Mrs Promise and her kids at home as her husband had already left for work when we arrived to visit them. They were very welcoming and happy to see us.

The Promise family cooks in a small kitchen at the back of their house. They use firewood to cook because it is cheap and easily accessible as the nearest gas station is miles away in Uyo. Mr. Promise is a bike rider and uses his bike to give lifts to people in exchange for money. He is usually away from the house for the whole day but struggles to make enough money to take care of his family. Mrs. Promise stays at home to take care of their kids and she was the one we met at home.

The Promise family were very excited to meet us as we introduced ourselves and why we were visiting them. They were surprised to learn that we brought a bag of Rice to gift to their family and they expressed their thanks to the donors who donated this wonderful gift to them. Mrs. Promise kept thanking us and told us that we were answers to their fervent prayers. Nigeria has been hit hard by inflation and the price of everything has more than doubled in the country. Most of what Mrs Promise said was in her local dialect so I could not understand them well but the huge smile on her face needed no translation.
