. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Asuquo family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Jason Gill this is the 330th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Asuquos through their village chief. They live in a village just outside Uyo, Nigeria. Mrs Asuquo is a widow and she has 4 kids. They all live in a one bedroom mud house with no plumbing or electricity. And like most people in the village they make the long trek to a local stream for water or collect rain water when it rains. Mrs Asuquo lost her husband to a bike accident 3 years ago and since then they have been struggling to make ends meet.

The Asuquos cook in the only other spare room in their house. They use firewood, which makes their pots dark with soot but is the only means they can afford. Mrs Asuquo cooks palm fruit which is the first stage to turning palm fruit into palm oil. She works at a local oil mill and her job is to cook a lot of palm fruits in a huge barrel to soften it for those who will pound it. She works a hard job long hours each day but it is still not enough to provide all the needs for her children. This bag of rice will go a long way to lift some of that burden and allow them a daily meal for months to come.

The Auquos were both surprised and happy with our visit. Mrs Asuquo said that she had seen us around their neighborhood and had been praying that we will come visit them. They thanked the donors for the gift and prayed for blessings on them and their families. I could see the look of gratitude in her eyes and know that she really appreciated the bag of Rice.
