. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Umana family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Becky Wright this is the 339th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We came across this family as we were driving past them in a village outside Uyo. Mrs Umana waved at us enthusiastically so I was prompted to stop and ask her her name. Their house was located in the interior parts of that area surrounded with bushes lots of trees and farms. They have no access to water and no light at all and have to walk down to the stream to fetch water. Mrs Grace Asuquo Umana is an Elderly woman, a farmer, who lives in a one room building with her little female grandchild. She gave birth to 7 kids and they were all away in the city leaving her alone with her grandchild to care for. The building has a very devastating look as it appears all their properties are kept inside one place. There is a little wooden outdoor porch were tables and chairs are kept to receive visitors and cooking space for Mrs Grace due to the compacted dark room inside.

Mrs Grace was an aged woman that didn’t really say much but her expression towards the gift we brought for her made a difference from her first reaction when we came to the house. She was so happy and filled with joy. She even went ahead to lay on her bag of rice as if it will disappear, she didn’t expect something like that. She kept on appreciating us till we left.

It’s not been easy for Mrs Grace, even the small farming that she does has been difficult as she gets older. She was so happy to meet us and even more surprised when she saw what we brought. She kept thanking those who donated for her and prayed for bless those who donated to her and her family. Seeing her still alive and still pushing means a great deal to us, I Pray God strengthens her and provides enough for her family to survive. This bag of rice will go a long way to ensure they have a daily meal for months to come.
