. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Effiong family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Jodi Mackiewicz in memory of Caroline Henry this is the 342nd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village called Uruan, Akwaibom state, Nigeria. Our journey to this location was not an easy one. They live in a small uncompleted building with a rugged zinc roof top. We met Mr Effiong Usanga is the head of the house. He is very old and unable to take care of himself alone. He was happy to welcome our company and introduced us to some of his children. They are 5 in number, some were not around they had some other chores to take care of. His youngest daughter takes care of him.

The Effiong family cook with fire wood outside their home under a small hut. Since Mr Effiong got arthrithis the upkeep of the family. His first daughter Maggie had to take the responsibility of providing and taking care of the family. She sells fruits and vegetables at the local market in the evenings after her work during the day is done.

Their kitchen

Here is Mr Effiong sitting on an old crafted wooden chair made out of sticks and fabric stretched over the top. He is essentially in that chair most of the time as it hurts him to walk around most of the times. I marvel at the strength his daughter must have to be able to take care of the family due to the condition of her father. I hope with the bag of rice donated to them it would go a long way in feeding the household and help ease her burden.
