. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Akpan family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Megan Wells this is the 343rd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this family at Uruan in Akwaibom state. They were recommended to us by their village chief. The distance between Uyo and Uruan is more than 10 miles and I heard Mr Akpan treks that distance on foot every morning to his work as a cleaner in the university located at Uyo, so I wanted to meet him. The Akpan family lives in a rented two bedroom apartment with some other tenants. We met Mr Akpan who received us and introduced us with his wife Mrs Mando Akpan. They are blessed with 5 beautiful children.

The kitchen is semi covered zinc and sticks structure and they cook using firewood and have also stacked some firewood by the side of the kitchen so they won’t run out of it. The compound is surrounded by beautiful trees. Mr Akpan is a cleaner at the federal university in the city and leaves his house very early in the morning so that he can get there on time and because there is no viable means of transportation as early as he leaves he has to make the journey on foot to the nearest town or anywhere he can get transportation

The Akpans were very happy and grateful for the gift. They thanked us and thanked those who donated for them to get it. I can see the joy on Mrs Mando’s face as she realizes how helpful this bag of rice which she describes as a blessing will mean to their family. I’m happy that we would contribute to make them this happy.
