Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Utong family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Abigail Campbell, Barb Przybylski and Janette Bartie this is the 357th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met the Utong family in Ibesikpo, they were neighbors to the Okon family. I asked Mr Okon about them and he told me that their father died in January and that it has been difficult challenge for them. Mrs Utong was not at home as she is a trader and was at the local market when we arrived to visit them. We met her first son Michael who provided us with the details of their family and he also took my phone number so the mom could reach me when she came back. Mr Utong has 5 children and they live next to the Okon family in this uncompleted one bedroom apartment. This house does not have plumbing or electricity and if it did I’m pretty sure the Utongs can’t afford to live in it.
Mrs. Emilia was a widow. Her husband was sick for a while and eventually died early this year leaving her behind to take care of the household. She is a very hardworking trader and her children are hardworking too. Here is the kitchen, where they usually prepare meals. They use large stones to support the firewood for cooking and a little farm by the side.
They were happy, surprised but shy, and thanked us for the donation and told us that they will share the news with their mother when she’s back. They were not expecting us at all and I had to explain that the rice was for them and that they can keep it. Can you imagine her surprise coming home to find a bag rice worth 3-6 months of ages sitting there as a gift for her. What a burden this this lift for this grieving widow.
