Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Fabian family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Jennifer Lawrence, Susan Pritchard, Gwen Freeman this is the 36th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
This wonderful family was recommended to us by their church leader, The Fabian family is a family of 8 kids but due to their financial circumstance we did not meet all the family members at home. They sent their kids away to live with different people and we only met 3 of the kids who currently stay with them. They live in a one room apartment and cook inside of their home.
The most unique thing about this family is that Mr Fabian is blind. He became blind suddenly about 15 years ago and all efforts to treat it has been unsuccessful. His family is wonderful and seem so happy in spite of their condition. Mrs Miriam is a trader and supports the family by selling pepper and onions in the market.
This family welcomed us into the home with open arms. They are a wonderful family that seemed to smile a lot and take courage from the little good things that happen to them. Mr Fabian was very emotional with our visit and so many times let us know how grateful he was and what it meant to their family. He said we were there at the right time and our visit was a blessing to their family. We felt that those who donated for this family made an essential decision and the food will go a long way in helping the family.
