Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Thompson family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Brenna Hedstrom this is the 362nd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
The Thompson family live at Ikot Oku village located on the outskirts of Uyo, Nigeria. In a very little one room mud house is very cramped space for a family with young kids and extra family. It is surrounded with beautiful flowers. We met Mr Friday Sunday Thompson and his wife Mrs Mercy Sunday and their two lovely young children. They also stay with Mr Thompsons dad who is sick and needed a place to recover.
Mr Friday Sunday drives a tricycle for commercial purposes being a driver is a high risk job as the roads in Nigeria are not well maintained and traffic is very chaotic . While his wife is a trader who sells fruits at the local market. Their kitchen is located at the backyard of their mud house. Just a little space to boil their water for drinking and preparing their meals.
The Thompson family were excited to meet us and Mr Thompson had been working with us all day and we were surprised to finally end up in his house and we were happy to meet his family. They were very grateful to have received their own bag of Rice and expressed their gratitude to those who donated the bag of Rice to them and prayed for the Lord’s blessings on them. And it was also fun trying to convince their daughter to join in the picture when she only wanted to go play with her friends.
