. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Emmanuel family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Sariah Tanner this is the 366th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Emmanuel family in Umuobe, a village just outside of Aba. They were referred to us by their church leader who highly recommended them because of how much they were struggling and how in need of help they were. Mrs Emmanuel is a widow, she was married for 15 years and has 6 kids. Her and 3 of her grandkids live in a rented one bedroom apartment that looks uncompleted or unfinished. 10 people in one room is not ideal but it is all they can afford.

The Emmanuels cook in a homemade kitchen constructed entirely from zinc and built away from the house as their house does not have a space to make into a kitchen. They use firewood to cook as it is the cheapest source of fuel available. Mrs Emmanuel is a farmer and relies on proceeds from her farm to take care of herself and her family. She was very excited to meet us and told me that she did not believe her Bishop when he told her to expect us to visit her. But we did come, with rice on our backs ready to bless this family.

The Emmanuels were beyond happy when we gifted them with their own bag of Rice. Mrs Emmanuel told me that our visit was like a miracle as her and family did not have money to buy a bag of Rice for the Christmas holidays. She kept thanking and blessing us for choosing their family. She was overly thankful to those who donated to their family and thanked them for helping them have an amazing Christmas.
