Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign
. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Chike family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Jodi Kennedy this is the 367th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Chike family in Umuobe, a village just outside Aba, Nigeria. They were recommended to us by their church leader. Mrs Chike is a widow and has one daughter. They live in a rented one bedroom apartment which belonged to Mrs Chike’s late husband’s brother who tragically passed away two months ago. This has really left Mrs Chike and her daughter stranded as they have till next year to look for a new place to stay. Just weeks away she will loose her home.

Mrs Chike is a trader and she sells fruits and vegetables at the local market. It’s a small shop and her and her daughter take turns to manage and eke out some income for their family to survive on. For some personal reasons the Chike family could not access their kitchen as it was locked they must cook at a neighbors. Their church bishop who is very close to the family assured us that their living situation is less than ideal, first looks can mislead you. They home is very nice compared to most people we deliver too. But with the recent loss of her husband we know most these items will need to be sold in order to survive and they will soon be homeless looking for a new place to rent.

The Chike family were especially happy to receive us and when we told them of what we brought for their family they were even more joyous. They were grateful for the gift they received and they were grateful to those who donated the bag of Rice to their family and wished them a happy Christmas in return for making their Christmas special for them. We know that this family will appreciate this gift as Mrs Chike kept thanking us for making their Christmas.
