. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Ujuaku family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Darby and Crystal Ashby Family this is the 369th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Ujuaku family in Aba, Nigeria. They were recommended to us by their church leader who assisted us in locating them. Mrs Chike is a widow and she has 5 kids, one of whom needs special care. He struggles to walk or talk and needs lots of extra care from his mother and siblings. He gave us a shy smile when we visited, that smile proved no words were needed to let me know his excitement over the gift we brought. Mrs Chikes husband died 2 years ago leaving her with an enormous responsibility to take care of the family alone. They live in a one bedroom apartment that seems unfinished or not complete.

The Ujuakus cook with firewood in a small room behind their house. Firewood is the cheapest fuel most families can afford to use as it is easy to gather and use. Mrs Ujuaku is a farmer and sells her farm produce at the local market so she can make income to take care of her kids. It has not been easy for Mrs Ujuakuafter a long day of farming or selling, she has had to resort to menial jobs for other to feed her family. I just hope her kids understand how much of a superhero their mom is.

We were very happy to meet this family as their ward bishop has told us so much about them and their situation. The Ujuakus were very, very happy to receive us into their home. They were so excited when we gave them their bag of Rice and couldn’t quite believe us. A full bag of rice is something she could never afford, in the rare change she can afford rice she buys it by the cup. They expressed their sincere gratitude to those who donated and help make their Christmas very special and prayed that God will reward them exceedingly.
