. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Ephraim family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to this is the 371st bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village in the outskirts of Aba, Nigeria. They were recommended to us by their church leader who also accompanied us in locating the family. Mrs Ephraim is a widow and she has 6 kids, most of whom were not at home when we visited. They live in a rented one bedroom apartment that looks unfinished. Mrs Ephraim has been struggling since the death of her husband and they moved back to the village after his death.

The Ephraims cook using firewood just outside their home. They can’t afford a kitchen or a cleaner energy source and have to make due with firewood because it is the cheapest that they can afford. Mrs Ephraim was a teacher but due to their financial state, she had to leave her job and move to the village where she became a farmer. This is now her main source of income as she sells her farm produce at the local market to generate money to take care of her family. Also included is a picture of their bathroom which is also outside the main house.

The Ehpraims were not expecting us and when their ward bishop told them who we were and what we brought for them, I could see her face lit up in disbelief and pure happiness. Mrs Ephraim kept thanking us for making her Christmas and helping their family have a reason to smile during this period. She extended her sincere gratitude when she heard that people donated the bag of Rice to them and thanked them for making her and her family feel loved and blessed.
