Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Daniel family, their bag of rice was donated in honor of the friends and family of Kurt & Maryhelen Freeman this is the 374th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
It took us a while to find this family as they were living far from Aba. We couldn’t have found them if we did not go with someone who has been there before. They were recommended to us by their ward bishop without whom we would have been lost. Mrs Daniel is a widow and she only has one surviving kid. They live in a one bedroom uncompleted building that has little to no amenities to speak of.
The Daniels cook with firewood just outside their home in a semi covered kitchen. Mrs Daniel isn’t very healthy and walks around with a crutch with just her daughter taking care of her. Her daughter is a farmer and sells her produce at the local market which she uses to take care of her mom. Selling produce in not a good source of income but jobs are hard to find, so in order to eat one must do jobs even if they are not very lucrative.
The Daniels were so happy to meet us and Mrs Daniel insisted on standing on her own and showering prayers on our heads for making her smile this yuletide season. They were so grateful for this unexpected gift and prayed that God will continue to reward those who donated to their family. Grateful to those for giving them a gift they could of never expected.
