. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Okpani family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to an anonymous donor this is the 378th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this special family in a village called Umuola outside Aba, Abia state. They were recommended to us by their church leader. We were welcomed by Mrs Augustine Okpani who has 3 children but lives with two. They live in a one bedroom house. The environment is usually unfavorable because there is no provision for water and electricity. So the children had to fetch water to fill the drums outside the house.

Mrs Okpani is a widow. She lost her husband many years ago leaving her to take care of the 3 kids. Mrs Okpani is handicapped and suffers from stroke. Due to the fact that she has no job one of the kids had to leave the house to fend for himself. We came to into the parlour which was very disorganized and is floored with old rough carpet and rusty windows. They share their cooking space with the bedrooms. The room seems very compacted because there is no longer space to place the kitchen utensils.

Its not easy for Mrs okpani because of the numerous challenges she has to face in her situation. Her ward bishop was so concerned about her and seeing her smile when we visited her was absolutely worth the visit. I hope this bag of rice goes a long way in helping the family circumstances.
