. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Innang family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Asher Jacobi this is the 387th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Innang family in Ikom Ima, Akwa Ibom state. They were referred to us by their village chief who also helped us to locate the family. Mr Innang is a widower, he has 4 kids and they live in a one bedroom house that is not quite finished. It has been hard for Mr Innang to take care of his family since the death of his wife just two years ago. He lost his job and was a security guard for a company in the city before he was laid off during the lockdown last year.

The Innangs built a kitchen themselves separate from the main house. They use the popular firewood and an iron tripod to cook which is the cheapest that they can afford. Mr Innang since losing his job and relocating to the village has now taken up farming and this is what helps him to take care of his family. Farming is looked down upon by many as it shows your “poor” you can’t afford to purchase your own food, instead you have to grow it. I am sure this was hard on Mr Innangs pride. He is a great example of a father doing everything he can to care for his boys.

Their kitchen

The Innangs were so happy to meet us. They were not expecting us and were beyond happy with their bag of rice. Especially given that this was the holidays and they had almost no plans to celebrate it. Mr Innang kept thanking us over and over again and extended his heartfelt gratitude to those who donated the bag of Rice to their family.
