Bag of Rice Project #392 -A visit to the Friday family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign
. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Friday family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Lindsey Watkins Family this is the 392nd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Friday family in a village just outside of Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village head who also sent an interpreter to help us in getting to the family. The Fridays have 4 kids and they live in a rented 2 bedroom house.

The Fridays cook outside their house with firewood and a metal tripod stand. This open space also serves as the kitchen as they have improvised using umbrellas to dry leaves. Mr Friday is a bricklayer and his wife is a trader. They both combine incomes in other to take care of their family.

The Fridays were not expecting us as they were surprised with what we brought for their family. They were all smiles and thanked us profusely. They were grateful to those who donated to their family and who have made their holidays a season to celebrate.
