. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Jackson family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Lindsey Watkins Family this is the 393rd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

Our next family was the Jackson family. We met them in Ikom Ima village, Akwa Ibom state. They were recommended to us by one of their neighbors who pleaded that we go check in on them. We met Mrs Jackson, a widow with 9 kids. We met only her and her last daughter and they stay in a two bedroom house.

Back view with Mrs Jackson still being shocked.

The Jacksons prepare their meals in a semi covered structure and they use the popular and cheap firewood and metal tripod combo. It doesn’t cost much to set up and it’s fuel is everywhere. Mrs Jackson is a trader and since her occupation could not feed her entire family, most of her kids had to go stay with other families. This is not an easy choice, but she is unable to feed them. They will act as indentured servants caring for their boss’s home and tending to their children. In return they should be given a daily meal, a place to sleep and the opportunity to go to school. However many times the agreement is not kept and the children are not treated well, they go without meals or the chance to attend school.

Mrs Jackson was in shock from the time we told her who we were and what we brought for her till we were about leaving her. She was short of words and kept muttering “Thank you Jesus” over and over again. I felt her faith, and her heart and she continued to thank the Lord. I am sure this bag of Rice meant the world to her and were and answer to her many prayers. She thanked us and prayed for us and those who donated the bag, before we left.
