. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Jumbo family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Lindsey Watkins Family this is the 395st bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Jumbo family in a village just on the outskirts of Uyo, Nigeria. They were recommended to us by their village leader who helped us identify some of the families we visited in this village and also helped us locate them. We met Mr jumbo and his wife Rose. They have two kids who were in school at the time we visited them. They live in a one bedroom house that looks uncompleted and they share the rest of the utilities with other neighbors. They do not have access to water and this village has not seen electricity in years. They walk a long distance to a local stream to fetch water or collect rain water and store in barrels during the raining season.

The Jumbos don’t have a space for a kitchen and cook outside their home in a semi covered, palm fond roofed structure. They use firewood to cook because it is the cheapest and most common source of fuel around here. Mrs Rose has a little grocery shop in front of the compound and makes a little from it every day. Mr Jumbo is a trader and sells used clothes at the local market and both try very hard to earn enough to take care of their family.

The Jumbos were very surprised to see us. They were not expecting us and even after I explained to them that we brought them a gift of a bag of Rice they couldn’t quite believe us. As we were leaving Mr Jumbo asked us if the whole rice was for them and that was when he really started smiling and thanking us. A full bag of rice is not something most can afford, a luxury item. They were very very grateful that they were chosen and thanked those who donated to their family and prayed that the lord will definitely reward them. We were happy to meet this family and I know that their prayers to God will be answered.
