. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Edet family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Shirley Taylor this is the 406th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village just outside Uyo called Nung udoe. It is cut off from the main city due to bad roads but we found a way in. We were directed to meet someone to take us around the village but we lost our way but decided to keep driving. We passed the Edet family and decided to come back because of the kids we saw playing in front of the house. We met the Edet family, they have 5 kids and live in an old and dilapidated house. the roof is damaged in some places and the house lacks plumbing or electricity.

The Edets do not have a kitchen and they cook outside of their home. They use firewood as it is the cheapest and most accessible fuel they can find especially since the nearest town is far from them. I unexpectedly found out that the Edets are latter day saints and it made me even happier seeing that we did not intend to visit this family at all. Mr Edet was at work when we visited them, he makes a living driving bikes for fares.

Meeting this family was a turning point in our journey. We were already lost and picked on the one family that needed us the most to visit. Mrs edet was very very happy to see us and was overjoyed with joy when I recognized her tithing envelope. She was vry grateful and thanked those who donated to their family and prayed for their continued blessings. She later served as a guide to help us identify more families in the area.
