. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Jonah family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Ann Jensen Family and an anonymous donor this is the 411th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

The Jonah family lived in a village called Ibesikpo outside Uyo, Akwa ibom State. They were recommended to us by a neighbor after we asked for direction and told them the type of families we were looking for. A family that is struggling to feed their children or facing a hardship. The Jonah family were a delight to meet us and we enjoyed the time we spent with them. They live in a small uncompleted building. it is cemented and surrounded with trees and bushes. The Jonahs have 5 kids and they all had smiles for us as we visited them.

Front view of their home

The Jonahs cook with firewood at the back of their home as they do not have space for a kitchen or money to complete their home. They can’t afford any other type of fuel so they kept it simple with a fire. Mr Jonah is apprenticing as a mechanic and was not at home when we visited. Mrs Jonah cooks a local meal called Ewa and sells it from a hand cart that she pushes every morning and both of these jobs help take care of the family. But as you can see from the photos of the children, and their swollen tummies, hunger is a common visitor to this family.

Their kitchen

It was a pleasure meeting this family and conversing with them. Mrs Jonah was surprised as to how we picked their family and what we brought for them. It sounded unbelievable to her and she was very, very grateful for the gift and she even commented on how long their family have been saving to buy a bag of Rice and how this gift will be of so much help to their family. Rice is very expensive as inflation has more than doubled the prices and most families have to save for months to afford to buy any. They thanked those who donated to their family and prayed that the Lord will continually bless them for this great kindness.
