. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Christian family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Joseph Callahan this is the 412th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this next family in Ibesipko village, just outside Uyo, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief who introduced and led us to the family. Mrs Christian is a widow and she has 4 children. Her husband died years ago which prompted them to leave the city and relocate back to the village where they can farm some, to prevent starvation. They live in a rented apartment which looks uncompleted and lacks basic amenities such as running water and electricity but that is kinda normal in this parts.

The Christians cook outside their home because they don’t have space for a kitchen inside. And they use firewood which is the cheapest method of cooking in Nigeria. One of her daughters was making fufu, a meal gotten from cassava. At this stage she would have to stir for a long time and the dough gets stronger the more she stirs. Mrs Christian sometimes sells this fufu in her little grocery store but it’s mainly for family consumption.

The Christians were very happy to meet us, especially when they realized why we were visiting them. Once they got over their initial surprise about about how it’s possible for us to just give them a bag of Rice they opened up to us and were very welcoming. They thanked those who donated this immeasurable gift to their family and expressed their sincere gratitude for it. I could see the happiness on their faces and it still was a shock to them as they watched us leave and leave the bag of Rice to them.
