. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Etim family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Staci Richins this is the 416th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Etim family in a village just outside Uyo, Nigeria. We saw their house while passing by and decided to drop in to visit them. The Etims have 5 kids and live in a one room apartment with other tenants. Mr Etim was not at home when we visited so we spoke with Mrs Patience Etim who was cooking when we arrived. The Etims live in a neighbourhood where the nearest source of water is miles away so they use containers to store water when they can access. The Etims could only afford to send some of their kids to school and the eldest has to stay at home to help out in the house.

The Etims cook with a simple gas stove just in front of their home. They were making a very simple nigerian meal called Egg soup which is made with Eggs, palm oil and okro and costs very little to make. While we were talking to Mrs Etim she even let her son continue the cooking on his own. Mr Etim sells second hand shoes at the local market and was not available when we arrived to visit them. Mrs Etim is trained as a tailor but can not afford to buy a sewing machine so she can adequately support her family.

It took Mrs Etim a while to believe that we wanted to give her a full bag of Rice for free and without any preconditions. She stopped cooking and listened again to make sure she heard right. Most families have not recovered from the job losses from covid and cherish these bags of Rice like gold. She was ecstatic when she heard that the rice was hers and continue to thank us as we gave her the bag of Rice. She was very grateful to those who donated the rice to her and prayed that God will bless them with all his choice blessings.
