Bag of Rice Project #42 -A visit to the Ngozi family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Ngozi family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Melissa Coy and Ashley Ecker Family this is the 42nd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this family through their church leader who introduced us to them. After a journey of 3 hours, we finally met them. The Ngozis have 5 kids and live in an uncompleted building that they have spruced up to livable conditions. They built a wooden structure in the back of their house with a thatch roof made of palm fonds. Mr Ngozi is a farmer and uses funds raised from farming to feed his family but it has to be harvest season for him to sell his crops or they won’t get money.

The Ngozis don’t have much but one would not tell from looking at them. They brought us a local fruit called Udara known as the African Star apple. Which was really sweet and we took it home. We met one of the kids washing by hand to dry it on the line outside which is common among Africans.

When we explained why we came and who we were the Ngozis were very grateful and happy. They appreciated or gift and thanked us very much and long for it. We knew in our hearts how much it meant to them and the help it will be for the family to save them from certain hunger.
