Bag of Rice Project #433 -A visit to the Friday family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Friday family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Tenney Hendrickson, this is the 433 bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

Here, is the family of Mr Ogumanam Friday we met at a village in Itu local government of Akwa ibom state. The parents were currently not at home as of the time we came. We were welcomed by their beautiful children who happened to narrate a lot of things to us. We were also informed about Mrs Blessing Ogumanam, their mother who gave birth to seven children. They told us that most of their siblings don’t live at home but we happened to meet these three lovely kids. Due to the conditions of the household some children had to leave the house to go outside to fend for themselves. We can see the childrens large tummies, due to malnutrition. One can tell hunger is a common visitor at their home. The three children we came across are not yet admitted to any educational institutions even though they came of age.

This family lives in one bedroom space . The toilet and kitchen areas were located outside at the backyard of the building. They lack so many kitchen facilities and prepare their meals with one pot and one small gas cooker. As of the time we came they were trying to prepare the little they had for themselves.

Mr Ogumanam happens to be a farmer so he derives his daily bread from the corps he produces in the farm. He is currently the only person in the household with little source of income. The wife is unemployed and they have very many children to look after. I pray this donation will help in feeding the mouths of this household and also for the father to make more profits as a farmer so his children can be admitted in school and be educated.
