Bag of Rice Project #435 -A visit to the Itah family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Itah family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Hailey Steele this is the 435th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

Mr Fredrick Itah and his family lives in a village at Itu local government of Akwa ibom state. He is married to Mrs Joy Itah and is blessed with four beautiful children. They live in a small one bedroom apartment protected with iron at the front yard. We were received at the veranda of the house. We approached them and told them of the purpose of our visit. They were pleased and were kind enough to show us their surroundings.

Here is their kitchen space where Mrs Joy prepares most of her meals. Due to the unavailability of water supply . She usually goes to fetch water from bore holes down the area to fill the tanks. Her children are still very little and have not come of age to help with the house chores. Mr Fredrick Itah is the bread winner of the household. Since the wife is currently unemployed he hustles as a keke driver to be able to earn some money to take of of the family. Though this income is not enough to sustain the family needs but they keep managing to survive.

The family were very pleased to have us as their visitors and so we took their contacts to be able to keep in touch with them and see how their progressing so far. I hope this donation will help with some of the family needs and also establish a little trade for Mrs Joy so she can be able to put these lovely children in school.
