Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Effiong family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Jake and Amber Given this is the 443rd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
The Effiong’s family was recommended by a family. They live in Uyo, Nigeria. They gave us a warm welcome when they saw us. They live in a one bedroom apartment which is not completed and they are blessed with 8 kids. They were so happy to meet us and were in disbelief because of the unbelievable gift we brought for them.
The Effiong’s cooks with firewood, which is the cheapest they can afford. Mr. Effiong is a bike rider, he does this to sustain their family of 8, and Mrs. Effiong Dorcas sells at the market she engage in this to support the husband so that they can be able to fend for their children.
They were excited when they got the bag of rice and were happy they have what they will use to feed the large family. They expressed their heartfelt thanks and prayed for the donors, also, they thanked God for leading us to them. The family were celebrating until we left.
