Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Bassey family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Ecem Karaharman this is the 454th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this wonderful family in Ibesikpo, a village located on the outskirts of Uyo, Nigeria. They were neighbors of the family we visited and I saw their kids who waved to us. We met their parents Mr and Mrs Bassey. They live in a tiny one room apartment with other tenants with whom they share utilities with. They have 4 kids and they are expecting another one soon.
The Basseys do not have space for a kitchen in their house so they constructed a small shed outside their home. A small zinc structure where they use firewood to make their meals. Mr Bassey is a laborer which is a term for people who work in construction sites and carry cement blocks to wherever it is needed, this is hard labor with little pay. His wife is not currently employed and the family is surviving however he can.
The Basseys were very surprised when we told them that we will give them a bag of Rice. A bag like this can feed families for over a month and is very vital to families. This family appreciated it and prayed that God will immensely bless the donors and reward them for this great help. We left the families full of smiles and giving thanks to God for blessing them.
