Bag of Rice Project #47 -A visit to the Comfort family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Comfort family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Courtney Weber this is the 47th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

This wonderful family was selected at random. We were passing by on our way to make a delivery to another family and I just felt that we needed to enter that compound. There we met Mrs Comfort, a widow whose husband died many years ago. She was the first person we met on the visit to her compound. She lives in a rented one bedroom apartment and lives with one of her grandsons.

Front view of her house

In front of Mrs Comfort’s house is where her kitchen is. She prepares most of the meals inside the house and the cooks it outside on a kerosene fueled stove. Mrs Comfort is partially blind and could not see us very well. Her grandson James helps her around and has stayed with her for a while now. He told us he can cook and Mrs Comfort confirmed it and I was pleasantly surprised. I was so glad that she has someone capable to help take care of her.

Her little kitchen

Mrs Comfort is a trader and sells tomatoes and pepper in the nearby market. She said she wanted to go in and something made her stay behind and that made us to meet her. When we told her what we brought for her, she was overjoyed. She said they have not had rice to eat for weeks. She kept thanking s for the gift and insisted that we were angels and that this is a miracle. I want to extend special thanks to Courtney Weber for the role she played in getting this wonderful family something to eat for months and facilitating a modern miracle.
