Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Ibok family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Lindsey Thomas this is the 48th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
This wonderful family was the first we visited in Uyo, Akwa Ibome state, Nigeria. The Iboks are lovely parents and they have 4 kids. Mr Ibok was not at home when we visited, he had gone to work. He works as a tricycle driver which is the primary mode of transportation in this city. The Iboks live in an uncompleted one bedroom apartment with all their kids.
The one room also features a place that serves as their kitchen and its divided by a thin plywood. Mr Ibok does not own the tricycle he drives and has to pay some set amount to the owner. Mrs Ibok has trained as a seamstress but does not have her own place or a machine to start up with. Plus they have a brand new baby. Their kids are quite lovely and made our visit fun.
When we met the Ibok family, and even though the father was not around we felt very welcomed. When we explained to Mrs Ibok about our visit she was very happy and kept thanking us over and over. I am so humbled by this whole experience and want to extend the gratitude of the Iboks to Lindsay Thomas who donated. I could see that this Rice meant a lot to them.
