Bag of Rice Project #489 -A visit to the Uso family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Uso family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to The Watkins Family, and this is the 489th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

The Uso Family was recommended by the Tommy Family, when we got there no one was outside, when we knocked they came out and received us. The Uso Family live in Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria. The family is blessed with 5 kids and they live in a one-bedroom apartment the house is built with mud which was an ancient way of building houses. When we told them what we have for them, they asked if we were sent by politicians and we told them someone donated it to them. The family didn’t believe their eyes.

The Uso Family said they are unable to afford cooking gas considering the price it’s been bought. They said they preferred using firewood since it is the cheapest they can get. The wife and the husband are both unemployed and they said they hardly get food to feed their children, they engage in menial jobs to buy food for the family.

The family were happy, the children were happy they have what they will eat because hunger has dealt with them. They prayed for the donor for showing them love and said good things won’t depart from the house of the donor, they were excited until we left.
