Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Comfort family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to The Watkins Family, and this is the 494th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met Mrs. Comfort in her shop, she was recommended by a friend. Mrs. Comfort lives in Afaha village which is in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area. When we got to her shop, we told her what we have for her and she was surprised, when she was about taking us to her house she spoke to one of us in Ibibio dialect saying” nko idido mkpo mfana” (hope it won’t be something that will resort into trouble). Because she was shocked and hadn’t seen such a thing before. She was shocked that someone who doesn’t know her will donate a bag of rice to her. Her house was just a few kilometres from her shop. When we got to her house, the children welcomed their mother and hugged her. When they saw the bag of rice they were excited. Mrs. Comfort is blessed with 5 kids and she lives in a one bedroom apartment where her grandmother also stays with her but she has a stroke and can’t walk.
Mrs. Comfort has a room set aside for cooking, she has a small gas stove she uses to cook and she said anytime the gas finishes, and she does not have money to fill the gas she goes back to using firewood to cook which is the cheapest. Mrs comfort is a tailor. She does this to feed the Family, she said the husband is unemployed, and he was not around during the time of our visit.
The family was happy and were still in shock that someone that does not know them will give them a full bag of rice. They kept saying “just like that” A bag of Rice is more than Nigeria’s monthly minimum wage and families are shocked when we tell them that the Rice is theirs. They prayed that God would bless the donor and not forget them in times of need.
