Bag of Rice Project #504 -A visit to the Udata family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Udata family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to Cheryl Yoast, and this is the 504th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Udata family in Effoi, located in Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. They were recommended to us by a friend. When we got to the house we did not find them. The person who recommended us to them told us that he knows where they are so we drove there and found them. We drove them to their house and they thanked us and welcomed us. When we told them what we have for them, they were happy and surprised. We told them someone donated it to them and they were happy and shocked. The Udata family has 4 kids. They live in a one-room apartment and the house is in a bad State, the windows are no more so are the doors of the house.

The Udata family cooks at the back of their house and they make use of firewood for cooking, which is harmful to the health of the person cooking. They are unable to get cooking gas because they don’t have money. They are unemployed, they only eat from the farm in front of their house.

The family was grateful and they thanked the donor for giving them a bag of rice and pray God to bless them and favor them and that whatever they lay their hands on will prosper.
