Bag of Rice Project #506 -A visit to the Iniese family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Iniese family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to TERRY SIMMONS, and this is the 506th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We were given the Iniese family’s name by a friend. The Iniese family resides in Effoi Village in Akwa Ibom State, which is in the southern region of Nigeria. The wife was returning from the bush when we arrived at the family’s home. She had gone there to get firewood. The family welcomed us with open arms and expressed astonishment when they saw us. They were delighted when we told them what we had in store for them and commented that it was a prank. When they inquired about its political affiliation, we said that someone had given it to them. The family has three lovely children and resides in a one-room apartment with them. Their residence is in poor shape.

The Iniese family sighed and said they don’t have a specific area they cook in when we inquired where their kitchen is. They admitted to us that they haven’t eaten in days because they lack the funds to purchase food. They explained to us that they only had access to firewood for cooking because purchasing a gas stove would be out of their price range. When asked what they do for a living to support the family, they said that they are unemployed and only work low-level jobs, which is why they haven’t been able to feed the family lately because they aren’t being contacted for those jobs.

The family was ecstatic, and their attitude was lifted as they thanked God and prayed for the donor. They said that whatever the donor touches will succeed and that God will bless the work of his hands. As we departed, the family, who were suffering and hungry, were joyful and grinned.
