Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Thompson family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to Tina Fruzen, and this is the 509th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met the Thompson family in Effoi, a village in Akwa Ibom State which is in the southern part of Nigeria. When we got to the compound, they were shocked, and when we told them the purpose of our visit they were excited and surprised that someone would donate a full bag of rice to them. They didn’t believe their eyes because how can someone give a bag of rice to a person he doesn’t know, considering the amount a bag of rice cost. The family lives in a one-bedroom flat which is built with mud and they are blessed with 5 kids.
The Thompson family cooks at the back of their house and they make use of firewood which is the cheapest form to cook considering the expensive amount a cooking gas goes for. They are unable to afford cooking gas. Mr. Thompson is unemployed and is currently hunting for jobs so that he can able to take care of the family, the wife on the other hand is a farmer and she does this to cater to the family since the husband is unemployed.
The family was happy and thanked the donor for putting a smile on their face, they prayed that God will continue to provide for the donor and take them to high places and that his mercy and grace shall be with them every day of their life. The family was happy and they smiled as we left.
